Dystopian Short film

As part of my work on dystopian narrative film i made this short film.  The script development was done with two other students and then I edited the final version here from the footage.  Podpalenie means arson in Polish and one of the others in my group was Polish and we liked it so went with it.

 

 

Brief synopsis/narrative outline. 

Central character, teenage male is caught up in a nightmare of his own making.  Disaffected with city life and angry with the world he reaks havoc through arson.  The reality is he is an unhappy young man who has had a happier past but who is overwhelmed with the dereliction around him and who feeld disconnected from the society he lives in.  As a result of the arson he is being interviewed by the police but refuses to speak, he is thinking about happier times and remembering good things as the police cover the camera and roll up their sleeves presumably to make him talk.

 

Main Characters  Teenage disaffected male.  Police officers.  People at scene of arson. 

 

 

Target Audience: 16 – 30 year olds

Project objectives 

Creating an urban feel with images that convey the oppressiveness of urban life for teenagers in London.  The fear, the excitement, the music, the thrill seeking and then the crash.  The story tells of a sad and lonely character who has messed his life up with his desire to light fires.  In an ideal world or utopia he would have been better looked after by the state and their would have been a general understanding and agreement about politics, law and customs.   It would be mutually understood. 

 In the world of this films dystopian nightmare these elements of successful society have broken down and a misguided teenager can cause huge damage both to society and to himself and there is no safety net.

The purpose of our film is to show how close to this reality we are now.

My responsibilities were camera and sound during production and the edit is my final edit which i did on my own.
